Penn Yan goalkeeper Mason MacKerchar had four saves and the Mustang’s goal was scored by Ralph Clancy against Waterloo.

Zackary Lovejoy scored the only goal of the game and converted a feed from Nicholas Ciancaglini for the Wildcats (7-5) in the 62nd minute.

Zachary Payne made five saves for Whitman and Lucas Hooker made 19 for South Seneca / Romulus (0-13).

Newark 3 Penn Yan 2 OT

Newark defeated Penn Yan in Lyon on October 4th.

Newark started scoring 20 minutes into the first half. Seven minutes later, Sierra Harrison hit on an assist from Hayley Andersen, and only four minutes later she hit again on an assist from Brady Logan.

Penn Yan held the lead until the 20-minute mark in the second half when Newark’s Natalie Bates scored. Newark Camryn Pettit scored the winning goal after 4 minutes in OT.

Elle Harrison was ripped off by 19 shots on goal and she saved 16, while Penn Yan’s only shots on Newark’s goal were the two that counted.

Penn Yan 2, Sodus 0

The Penn Yan girls beat Sodus 2-0 on October 1 after two Leah Moniot goals. Her first goal was without assistance in the first minute in the 35th minute. Hayley Andersen scored her second goal in the 18th minute of the second half.

Elle Harrison had 3 saves. Penn Yan had 12 shots on goal.

Karynna Rutledge made 22 saves for Dundee in that game on October 5.

The Dundee Scots held Red Jacket for 1 goal in the first half of their October 3 game but were unable to stop 5 goals in the second half. Karynna Rutledge had 17 saves. Dundee had no shots on goal.

The Marcus Whitman girls took the lead into the last minute of regulation and had to settle for a 3-3 home draw with Harley-Allendale Columbia on October 1st.

Bella Cavallaro gave the Wolves an early lead with her goal in the second minute with a direct kick from about 30 meters away. Whitman responded with consecutive goals from Nichaela Commisso on the 14th and 16th minutes, the first from an assistant from Zoelle Payne and the second from a direct kick.

H-AC sent the game 2-2 into halftime when Fiona O’Brien scored in the 24th minute.

Commisso’s third goal of the game gave Whitman a 3-2 lead in the 36th minute, but H-AC equalized in the 39th minute when O’Brien scored again.

Makayla Selvek made nine saves for Whitman (6-5-1).

8-man soccer

Marcus Whitman 54, Holley 6

Senior Dylan Howell hurried 17 runs for 216 yards and caught a pass for 44 yards for 260 yards of total insult to Whitman in Senior Night on October 5th. Howell also ran for four touchdowns, caught a TD pass, and scored a 2-point conversion.

Sophomore Austin Smith rushed for 155 yards and three TDs and also scored on a 2-point conversion, and junior quarterback Seth Benedict ran for eight yards, passed for 73 and a TD, and threw a 2-point conversion pass.

Whitman stacked a total of 480 yards, 407 on the floor, and held Holley at 195 yards of total insult. That only included 26 rushing yards in the first half.

Marcus Whitman 60, Finney 34

The Wildcats (1-2) amassed a total of 568 yards, 480 rushing, in their first win of the eight-man season on September 28.

Dylan Howell raced 12 times for 305 yards and five touchdowns, Austin Smith rushed for 133 yards and two TDs on 12 runs, and Austin Webster had a TD catch of 37 yards.

Quarterback Seth Benedict ran for a TD and passed for 88 yards and a TD.


Pal-Mac 4 Penn Yan 1

Penn Yan won the third game of that highly competitive game against Pal-Mac. The game results were 24-26, 23-25, 25-22 and 22-25.

Caitlin Wunder had 18 kills. Serina Sheradin had 30 templates. Hannah Brodmann had 9 kills and 2 aces.

After that game Pal Pal 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the league and Penn Yan is 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the league

Penn Yan won the first game 25-14 against Newark but fell 19-25, 24-26 and 17-25 in the last 3 games of the game on October 2.

Caitlin Wunder had 17 kills and 3 aces in a volleyball game against Newark.

Serina Sheradin had 27 aces and Kayla Anderson had 6.

Penn Yan traveled to Waterloo on October 9th before hosting Midlakes on October 11th. You play in the Waterloo tournament on October 13th and then travel to Hammondsport on October 16th.


Penn Yan’s golfers finished their regular season on October 9th with a record of 9-3 (10-4 overall) and played in individual sections at the Ontario Country Club on October 9th.

Penn Yan golfers traveled to Silver Creek on October 4th to play Waterloo. Clay Koivuniemi and Max Brodmann each carded a 43 and Clark Simmons had a 44.
