With spring sports in mind, here’s what you should know about high school boys soccer in the Murfreesboro area in 2021.

Sam Apigian, central magnet, Sr.: The versatile midfielder had five goals and three assists in his second season. He scored a goal in the team’s first game of 2021.

Kevin Avalos, Smyrna, Sr.: The striker was named All Area Player of the Year for his sophomore year, scoring 18 goals with eight assists.

Mak Binder, Stewarts Creek, Sr .: The striker is counted for much of the offensive production. Scored two goals in the team’s first game in 2021.

Riley Clothier, Oakland, Jr .: Clothier was District 7-AAA Freshman of the Year and an All-Area First Team Defender of the Year in 2019.

Jorge Graniel, central magnet, Sr .: The team captain and four-year-old striker led the team with 16 goals in 2019 and scored two goals in a shortened 2020 season. He had one goal and three assists in the team’s first game that season.

Travis Hagar, Smyrna, Sr .: Will guard the gate position for the Bulldogs.

Liam Hussels, Rockvale, Sr .: Will be one of the missile veteran leaders.

Will Kassebaum, central magnet, Sun .: The midfielder had one goal and four assists in just one week as a freshman in 2020. Scored in the team’s first game in 2021.

Isaac Lopez, Smyrna, So .: The striker should have an immediate effect on the Bulldogs.

Denilson Meza, Siegel, Sr .: The midfielder is counted as the team’s main distributor this season. He scored a goal in the team’s first game of 2021.

Andre Moriel, central magnet, jr .: The attacking midfielder scored three goals with two assists in just one week last season. Scored in the team’s first game in 2021.

Junior Phillipe, La Vergne, Jr .: One of only two returning starters in a young Wolverine lineup.

Braxton Robinson, Oakland, Sr .: As one of the Patriots’ veteran leaders, he scored two goals in the team’s first game in 2021.

Robert Rodriguez, La Vergne, Jr .: One of only two returning starters for the young Wolverines.

Braden Ross, Oakland, Sr .: The goalkeeper is a signatory to Huntingdon College.

Evan Shoemaker, Siegel, Jr .: The defender has started every game since his first season. He scored a goal in the team’s first game of 2021.

Drew Sledge, Siegel, Sr .: The striker was third on the team for the last full season.

Malachi Ray Tharpe, Rockvale, Sun .: Scored a goal in the team’s first game in 2021.

Big tournament

Since the number of trips for area teams is limited, the largest tournament for most is held in the Boro.

Allegedly debuting last season, the first “Meet in the Middle” tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at Siegel Park, and will feature teams from across the state. Teams include Oakland, Siegel, Central Magnet, and Smyrna.

Please note the games Central Magnet vs. Siegel on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Smyrna vs. State Power Houston on Friday at 6 p.m.

Other notable teams in the tournament are Brentwood, Nolensville, Notre Dame, Bearden, Father Ryan, and Baylor.
