KANSAS CITY, Mon. – IUPUI’s men’s and women’s football programs have been honored with Team Academic Awards from the United Soccer Coaches, as announced on Thursday, September 23rd. IUPUI was one of 90 programs spanning all divisions of college football that recognized both men’s and women’s programs.
Head coach Chris Johnson’s women’s program was among the nation’s elite for the 2020-2021 academic year with a 3.73 grade average on the team. Johnson’s team unofficially ranked 12th in the country in the Team GPA under the Division I women’s programs.
Head coach Brian Barnett’s men’s team also did incredibly well in class, scoring a 3.50 mark in the final year of school. Barnett’s team finished 14th in the country in the Team GPA and topped the Horizon League.
IUPUI is the only Indiana State Division I team to have recognized both programs, and one of three Horizon League schools (Detroit Mercy & Robert Morris) whose men’s and women’s programs have been recognized.
