Newtown High School’s girls ‘and boys’ soccer teams faced South-West Conference rivals Immaculate from Danbury and Joel Barlow from Redding last week.

The girls doubled Immaculate 2-1 in a home game on September 23. Bella Gerace and Katie Rowan scored for the Nighthawks, with Rowan striking from a distance with a well-placed shot.

The Newtown girls scored another 2-1 win in the Barlow game when Riley Powers hit the game winner just 14 seconds behind. Rowan also scored for the Nighthawks, who overcame a 1-0 deficit. Goalkeeper Ryann Heim-Sherwood made seven saves.

The Newtown guys kept things tight but were dodged 1-0 by both Immaculate and Barlow.
