It was another lovely weekend with the Saint Francis football teams playing games across Queens. Congratulations to all the kids through wins, losses and draws as they continue to represent everything that is good in youth athletics.
Special recognition this week goes to the 4th grade boys who proudly wore their “Jimmy Strong” patch in honor of their teammate Jimmy O’Neill. Jimmy works hard to get back on the field with his pals while he continues his treatment for Wilms’ tumor.
The boys continued their successful start to the season and contributed to their victory over the Blessed Trinity last weekend. A hard-fought rematch with Blessed Trinity ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday. The goal was scored by Jack Belford, with an assist from Kevin Papadopoulos. Will Gahn held strong in the gate.
It was a team effort on Sunday as the boys improved to 2-0-1 with a win over Holy Child. Cousins Thomas Scollo (2) and TJ Gampero (1) scored a family hat trick and Finn Keane scored his first goal of the season. Goalkeeper Peter Hayden kept the other team goalless with the help of defenders: Dominic Mazzola, Noah Lourde, Brodie & Bryce Luhrs, Kevin Heegan and Luca DiGennaro.
Keep up the good work guys! Keep it up, Jimmy!
