The Barnstable Red Hawks won the Atlantic Championship of the Cape & Islands League last season with a 1-0 win on penalties against the powerhouse of the Nauset Warriors. They were led by their league MVP Kate Brewster and all the stars Morgan Dardia and Lexi Varetimos. This season they will have to forego their MVP Brewster and Dardia who graduated. Can Varetimos Barnstable lead to another league championship?

The Nauset Warriors dominated last season as they finished on an 8-2-2 record with five All Stars and one Honorable Mention, most from any Cape & Islands League Atlantic team. The Warriors will have all six of those players back for this season. Can they take the top spot from the Red Hawks this season?

Barnstable High School Red Hawks

Midfielder / Defense Specialist, Lexi Varetimos, Senior

Varetimos was named an All-Star of the Cape & Islands League Atlantic last season. Her all-star teammates League MVP Kate Brewster and Morgan Dardia won’t be by her side this season. Varetimos must continue their strong game this season for the Red Hawks to succeed.

Bourne High School Canalmen

Correira received an Honorable Mention for the All-Stars of the South Coast Conference last season.

Defender midfielder Sydney Fitzpatrick, senior

Fitzpatrick received an Honorable Mention for the All-Stars of the South Coast Conference last season.

Libero Grace Gobeil, elderly

Gobeil was awarded an All-Star Award for individual sportiness last season.

Midfielder Lexi Morisett, senior

Morisett was an All-Star for the St. John Paul II Lions last season. “Lexi is returning after joining JPII for her senior year. She will be a great addition to the team as she was named MVP in her sophomore year at BHS.” – Correia

Cape Cod Academy Seahawks

Goalkeeper Lili Shanahan, newcomer

“Amelia, Jenna and Lilly were new to CCA last year so I only saw them play in practice but they showed their skills and an impressive understanding of the game” – Durfey

Dennis-Yarmouth High School Dolphins

Midfielder / Defender Shannon Donahue, Junior

Donahue received an All-Star Honorable Mention last season and is the Captain of the Dolphins.

Falmouth High School Clippers

Forward / midfielder Elizabeth Janes, junior

Janes received an All-Star Honorable Mention for its sophomore year. With some players leaving, Janes will take on a bigger role this season.

Cavossa was named an All-Star Honorable Mention last season and will begin her senior season as a front runner, with All-Stars Ariana Silvia, Jasmine Moran and Hanna Falky graduating.

Hyora was an All-Star in the Cape & Islands League Lighthouse last season. “Not only is Lexie a great one-on-one defender and anchor in her back, but her disposition and ability to hold the ball means that often the attack is generated by her too.” – Monomoy trainer Jenn Peterson

Midfielder / attacker Kate Gabri, senior

Gabri was the Sharks’ top scorer last season with 11 goals and 5 assists. “She can finish around the goal and also has a great vision to field team-mates.” – Peterson

Goalkeeper Macy Crowell, senior

“Macy is a net force and a great leader for our team. She has the chance to become the best goalkeeper in the league and will have a huge impact on this team this season.” – Nantucket trainer Brian King

“Evelyn is an all-round athlete who can control an entire game from midfield and has the will to score the big goal when we need it. With her vision and speed she helps to improve everyone around her. ”- King

Last season, Co-Captain Deschamps was named Globe All Star, Cape & Islands All Star and elected to the Eastern Mass All Star First Team. She recorded 8 shut-outs for the Warriors last season.

Midfielder Olivia Avellar, sophomore year

Avellar was selected as the 2020 Cape & Islands All Star and was the Cape & Islands top scorer with 7 goals and 6 assists.

Forward Caroline Kennard, sophomore year

Kennard was a Cape & Islands All Star and was the third best scorer in Cape and Islands with 5 goals and 3 assists.

Sandwich High School Blue Knights

Striker Kara Oldham, senior

Oldham was an All-Star of the Cape & Islands League Lighthouse last season and was the top scorer for the Lions. “She’s a fast, explosive player with an excellent finish who threatens a goal every time she touches the ball. She was last season’s MVP.” – JPII trainer Larry Palmer.

Midfielder Alexandra Palmer, senior

Palmer missed almost the entire 2020 season with a foot injury but is back at full strength. “Alex is a dynamic, intelligent player who excels practically everywhere on the field. She has excellent technical skills and is also a wonderful role model for the younger players.” – Palmer

Goalkeeper Kendal O’Brien, senior

“Kendal is a fierce and fearless gamer who takes on any challenge she faces. She gives 100% every time she steps on the field and provides an experienced, vocal lead for the Lions defense.” – Palmer

Sturgis West Navigators

Midfielder Kate Donahue, senior

The Navigators’ co-captain, Donahue, has been selected as an All-Star of the Cape & Islands League Lighthouse for the past three seasons. She led the league with 19 goals in her freshman year. This season, Donahue will be doing without her 4 graduated All-Star teammates, including MVP Sydney Ahern.

“Donahue will return to one of the two positions in midfield as the team’s main playmaker. She is the team’s main engine in defense and attack.” – Sturgis West trainer Mike Ball

Outside hitter Alexa Bound, senior

Bound is also co-captain and has scored a total of 37 goals in the past three seasons, including 22 goals in his sophomore year.

“Alexa will return as captain and the team’s main attack threat,” – Ball

Defensive specialist Jocelyn Hurrie, senior

Hurrie was selected as an All-Star Honorable Mention last season.

“Hurrie’s athletic ability, tenacious defense skills and work ethic will position her as one of the strongest defenders in the league for the coming season.” – ball

Upper Cape Tech Rams

Forward Mya Lewis, junior

Lewis was one of the top scorers for the Rams last season and will look to continue their strong offensive this season.

Striker Delilah Barton, Elderly,

Barton was a key part of the Rams’ offense and even had a hat trick in one of their games last season.

Goalkeeper Hayley King, sophomore,

King had a great first year on the net for the Rams. She had three shutouts in the net and kept three teams on goal last season.
