FRISCO, TEXAS – A Maryland youth soccer team won a national tournament in Texas on Sunday. The Future Soccer Club Monarchs defeated Football Club Dallas ’03 Premier 2-1 and won the Dallas Cup. The U18 boys team is the third team in Maryland to win the championship in its 42-year history.

The Future SC Monarchs feature players from Prince George and Montgomery counties. Adeteye Gbadehan and Sterling Harris II scored the team’s two goals.

The game took place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas. ESPN 3 broadcast the game nationwide.

Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County Executive, applauded the local team’s victory.

Another Maryland team, the Baltimore Armor MLS NEXT, took the boys under 17 home that same day. That squad defeated the Miami Rush Kendall Soccer Club 6-5 in a shootout.
