The North Carolina School Soccer Coaches Association recently released its postseason awards and several local soccer players have received recognition.
The pioneers were Hendersonville Senior Levi Hord and North Hendersons Rubisel Sanchez, both of whom received All-State honors.
Hord was one of the Bearcats team leaders, both in the goals (14) and assists (five).
“Obviously, for a player like Levi, the stats don’t tell the whole story, and the intangibles really make him stand out,” said HHS coach Stuart Scott on Wednesday. “Levi brings the same great attitude towards training that he brings to games. He’s worked with the team at every stage of the season – from developing individual skills and conditioning through to the playoffs.”
The Bearcats ended the season 9-3 after falling in the second round of the 2-A playoffs against Hibriten. Scott said Hord was a leader on and off the field.
“He’s relentless in his attack and has tremendous footwork and ball control. He’s a great help on the training ground and helps his teammates become better players by giving advice and words of encouragement. He’s our leader in conditioning and complains.” never runs over sprints or sprints endurance, “said the trainer.
Sanchez played as a center-back for North and was instrumental in defense as well. He had six goals and one assist that year. Both Hord and Sanchez were also picks on the NCSCA’s all-region team. Other members of the all-region teams are listed below:
